As well as helping injured people, the team here at Spencers Solicitors are committed to supporting our local community. Below is a selection of the organisations, charities and community activities that Spencers Solicitors are involved with:
Chesterfield Football Club
Since 2013, Spencers Solicitors have been proud sponsors of Chesterfield FC, the town’s professional and elite football club. It’s a privilege to have the Community Stand at the Proact Stadium known as the Spencers Solicitors Community Stand.
To coincide with our sponsorship, we created the Chesterfield FC Partner App, which is a free downloadable mobile app providing Spireites supporters' with access to up to date information on fixtures, results and news on everything related to the club.
Chesterfield Community Trust
We are pleased to also support the Chesterfield FC Community Trust which is a charity that works closely with the club to promote sports participation, social inclusion and education in the local community.
Shortly after we became sponsors, the facilities within the stand were completed and it was officially opened as the 'Community Hub'. The Hub is now home to the Community Trust, 'Chesters Den' play area and the Spireites Sport & Health Club.
Commenting on our sponsorship and partnership, Robert Landman, Spencers Chief Executive Officer said:
"Chesterfield is the site of our principal office, and it's where we've been, in one guise or another, for the past 35 years. Getting more involved with the town's football club gives us a chance to get to know the local people all the better, and to put something back into the community, supporting the club's sterling work over the years. To that end, we've sponsored the Community Stand - the hub of Chesterfield's community work."
Ashgate Hospice provides specialist palliative care at their facilities in Chesterfield and within the wider area of North Derbyshire.
The hospice and their registered charity is a cornerstone of the local community and an organisation we have been involved with, in different ways, for many years including:
Please visit the Ashgate Hospice website to learn more about the invaluable work they do and the services they provide.
Breast Cancer Campaign - Wear it Pink
Wear it Pink is an annual event organised by the Breast Cancer Campaign to raise money and awareness for people who are affected by Breast Cancer.
Spencers Solicitors have been supporting the inspiring Wear it Pink Day for nearly 10 years. Each year since 2005 our employees enthusiastically wear an array of pink clothing to raise money for the charity.
Wear it Pink Day doesn't stop with pink clothing and the fundraising usually includes organised bake sales, pink themed raffles and fancy dress competitions each year.
Take a look at our Facebook page to see what we got up to in past years.
Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan is a charity that strives to improve the lives of people who are affected by cancer. Invaluably, Macmillan not only support patients dealing with cancer but also their carers, families and local communities.
The World's Biggest Coffee Morning
Every year Macmillan Cancer Support organises the world's biggest coffee morning which is their largest fundraising event of the year.
At last year's coffee morning, Spencers employees baked cakes, made fancy barista style coffees and organised raffles raising a total of over £300.
Dronfield Town FC
Dronfield FC who currently play in the Northern Counties East League (NCEL) of Division One, having reformed in 1998 have a well established community grassroots setup with over 30 teams, involving over 400 footballers and boys and girls from the age of 4.
We are delighted to support such a community driven football club as a corporate sponsor.
The club was formed from the merger of Old Whittington CC and Richland Wanderers CC in 2005, having two sides in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League as well as a midweek team and an occasional friendly side.
Spencers have staff who play in the team and are happy to sponsor our local community cricket club.
Chesterfield in Bloom
Chesterfield in Bloom is a year round competition set up with the aim of making Chesterfield a cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit.
Spencers Solicitors are in their sixth consecutive year of supporting the Chesterfield in Bloom awards, recognising the efforts of amateur gardeners in Chesterfield and the surrounding area with a variety of different awards up for grabs.
In previous years we sponsored the 'Best Front Garden' category, however for the 2014 awards it was a pleasure to support the 'School Painting Competition' involving local primary schools and it's great to know that the winning masterpieces have been transposed into a banner that everyone visiting Chesterfield can now enjoy.
At Spencers we support opportunities for work experience placements and for the last ten years we have operated a formalised work experience programme, providing placements to students from various local schools including:
We strive to ensure that placements are as interactive and authentic for the students as possible. The placements involve spending time in our operational teams to gain an insight into the different work types we deal with and the process by which claims are handled. Essentially, the programme is designed for the students to gain an insight into a legal career through experiencing the day to day management of a case and by undertaking practical tasks with appropriate support and supervision.
Commenting on our work experience programme, Kelly Pashley-Handford, HR Manager said:
"We very much recognise that work experience can have a significant impact on future career choices and can really help students to build their confidence and communication skills. There is a noticeable positive difference in confidence and interaction from the point of the induction to completion of the placement which is great to be a part of".
Alongside the work experience programme we are committed to support local schools and students on recruitment events. Recently, we were fortunate to be involved in Tupton Hall School's Mock Interview Day for Year 11 pupils and Bolsover School's Industry Day involving Year 10 students. The two events were designed to help raise awareness of what is expected at interview and to provide valuable interview experience for the students. Both initiatives were well planned and very rewarding to be involved in.
